Calendar Survey Results

NOTE: Last month @Mizzou asked alumni and Tiger fans what they thought of the annual MU Alumni Association member calendar. Thank you for taking the time to voice your opinions. The Association will use these results in planning the 2004 member calendar.

Changes/additions to the calendar I would like to see include:

  • Try to include current or former pictures of Marching Mizzou.
  • Photos of student activities, classes and faculty research in campus settings would be nice. Action shots should be encouraged – not just lovely campus scenes
  • Greek Town, College Row, Red Campus, Alumni Center Interiors, Faurot Field, Cheerleaders, University Singers & their schedule, ROTC units
  • I like it just the way it is.
  • Why not add all the sports, both men and women to dates, and activities during homecoming week.
  • If artwork and photographs are both used, the artwork should be alum-produced as well as the photos.
  • I would like to see some pictures of the Golden Girls put somewhere in the calendar.
  • If you will use artwork, please choose pieces or work pertaining to MU, like the Tiger Mosaic in front of the library or the Eyes of the Tiger first presented to Tigers for Tigers fundraising or the painting in the library of that whole scene between the library and Memorial Union. Also, a smaller daily or weekly calendar would be really great!
  • I know many; myself included use a Franklin-Covey – type day planner. Is it possible to make “inserts” for this type of binder/day planner?
  • I would love to see greeting cards available for purchase on the website.
  • Have some of the photos be portrait instead of all of them being landscape. It will give more variety to what is on the calendar. You can put multiple photos on one page if you don’t change the size/shape of the pages.
  • I liked it a few years back, when you had the schedule for the other sports listed off to the side on the calendar.
  • I think images could be both school-related, or they could be related to activities/accomplishments of alums, e.g. buildings or bridges designed by alums or works of significant works of art by alums.
  • Women’s athletic dates
  • The sizes of the days of the week boxes have shrunk over the past few years, and I didn’t use my calendar this year because the boxes were too small. I miss having my MU calendar on the wall and would love to use it again, if the boxes could go back to the old size.
  • Keep the date box size adequate to write other commitments or reminders in for any given day of the week.
  • Moon and season changes as well as national holidays shown prominently.
  • I enjoy seeing vintage photos of campus, such as the old Shack, dorms, etc.
  • Continue putting MU start and stop of semesters on calendar as well as MU vacations.
  • Daylight savings time. MU beginning and ending dates.
  • Ability to purchase additional copies of the calendar.
  • I love having the calendar in my office. I’ve had one in my office since I graduated. It’s small thing, but it’s important to me.
  • Why just men’s football and basketball? Why not all home sports! It’s only fair.
  • Tourin’ Tigers events down the side as in 2002.
  • Option to order additional copies through the Alumni website or at the campus bookstore. Members should get a discount compared to the general public.
  • Women’s basketball schedule, baseball, etc.
  • Including information for prospective students and applying students would be helpful.
  • I liked the calendar much more when it was simple. A picture on the top half and a full calendar on the bottom half. There is far too much going on with the additional pictures and information about association staff. It used to look more professional and I think you took it down a notch when you started adding so much.
  • Women’s basketball, volleyball, gymnastics schedules
  • This year, the black border around alternate pages did not allow for making notes in the margins – which is something I like to do. In addition, many people (including Christians trying to plan events) would benefit if you included the Jewish holidays of Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Passover and Chanukah as do most secular calendars.
  • Concert series events
  • Maybe some of the small inset photos could feature scenes from the past, and show how things used to be/look compared to the way they are now.
  • As long as the quality of the photographs is high, whether you get them from a contest or from a professional is irrelevant whether you use all photographs or mix in artwork – keep the artwork “realistic” and representing scenes from MU and college life
  • The calendar is GREAT! Get it out earlier!
  • I love the photos of campus – especially longer shots where you can see more of the building, rather than close-up, more artistic shots.
  • Certainly, select photos from the calendar availability at reasonable prices to Alumni Members will permit one to frame and use a scatter pictures in a home. Also, how about including a picture of the State Capital and/or the Governor's Mansion?
  • I used the calendar for years until 2002. Too many events listed on too many days. No room for writing personal and family activities in the spaces. Please include activities in a section in the back of the calendar. Love the photographs!
  • I like the date boxes to be nice and big to write in our busy schedules. Although I like the pictures, I’d sacrifice lots of the border information and pictures to get bigger date boxes.
  • I would like members to have the option of buying extra calendars…one for the office and one for home.
  • I prefer not to see pictures of people in the calendar (unless they are well known – athletes, chancellor, deans, etc)…scenery on and around the campus is great.
  • It would be nice if there were some vertical shots too, but that would be a challenge to the normal calendar format as it is today.
  • More school activities – football, basketball, baseball, Truman, Golden Girls – less building shots.
  • Get it out sooner. I like the merchandise offerings as well that come with the calendar.
  • Continue with pictures of the campus during various times of year, spring, fall, winter.
