Licensing
Program Receives Top Award
The MU licensing and trademark program received
the prestigious Synergy Award from the International
Collegiate Licensing Association (ICLA) in June. The award
honors the top collegiate licensing program in the country and
is chosen by peers within ICLA.
Linda Gilbert, MU trademark and licensing
program administrator, accepted the award on behalf of the University.
“Because the Synergy Award winner
is nominated and voted on by other licensing administrators
across the country, I’m very proud to accept on behalf
of the University of Missouri,” Gilbert said. “The
award would not have been possible without the support that
licensing receives from many MU departments, including Intercollegiate
Athletics, the MU
Alumni Association, University
Bookstore and University
Affairs.”
The purpose of the licensing program at
MU is to oversee the use of the University of Missouri-Columbia
name, logos and insignia. Standards of use are regulated by
the University, in cooperation with The
Collegiate Licensing Company (CLC).

MU’s licensing program has been in
place since 1983 and generates an annual income of approximately
$500,000 for the University. Revenue from licensing royalties
is used for Marching
Mizzou and athletic scholarships.
ICLA is administered by the National
Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics and works
to enhance the acceptable operating standards and ethics in
the collegiate licensing industry. MU has been a part of this
national organization since 1988. For the past twelve years,
Gilbert has held various positions on the board of directors.
In June, she assumed the presidency of ICLA.
Serving more than 1,600 institutions in
the United States, Mexico and Canada, ICLA brings the collegiate
licensing programs together for educational and networking opportunities.
