at All-Time High
More Tigers than ever are earning their
stripes
Thanks to dedicated alumni, Tiger fans and
friends of the University, 2002-03 marked the largest increase
in membership for the MU
Alumni Association in four years. The Association’s
increased recruiting efforts resulted in the highest year-end
membership total in Association history — up three percent
from 2001-02.
Highlights
- Overall Association membership has increased
3 percent from last year.
- Newly-recruited members have continued
to rise each year for the last few years:
2000-01: 5,381
2001-02: 5,478
2002-03: 5,831
- The overall year-to-date member retention
rate ended the year at 79.33 percent — up 3.7 percent
from last year.
- Use of the web continues to rise. New
membership applications are up 63.2 percent this year, and
online renewals ended the year at 70.2 percent above last
year.
- Student membership passed the 2,500 mark
and ended the year at 2,647 — up 48.5 percent from 2001-02.
Chancellor Richard Wallace, in his 2003
MU Alumni Association Founders’ Day address said: “This
year has brought us unprecedented support from alumni, donors
and friends. I’ve been a member of the faculty on this
campus for 36 years and my two daughters are both graduates.
I can tell you firsthand that the support from our alumni and
friends truly makes MU a world-class university. You are a vital
part of the Mizzou family, and we are deeply grateful for your
support.”
More than 34,000 Association members annually
provide support for a variety of University programs and services,
including:
Faculty
Development Incentive Grants
Faculty at Mizzou can apply for funding of special
projects, thanks to Faculty Development Incentive Grants. These
grants support quality faculty projects that otherwise would
not be funded by the University.

students marked their entrance to Mizzou at the annual MU
Alumni Association Tiger Walk last August. Student members
of the Association (True Tigers) increased more than 48
percent in 2002-03. Photo by Brian McNeill |
Scholarship
Program
To help top-quality students attend MU, the Association’s
Alumni Scholars program provides three at-large scholarships,
one international scholarship, and one scholarship on behalf
of each chartered alumni chapter and school/college alumni organization.
Last year more than $150,000 was awarded in alumni scholarships.
MIZZOU
This four-color magazine is mailed quarterly to MU graduates
and Association members to keep them informed about events at
Mizzou, in and around Columbia, and in the lives of their friends
and classmates.
Reunions
Among other group-specific MU reunions each spring the MUAA
invites the 50-year graduates back to campus to renew friendships
and reconnect with their alma mater at the Gold Medal Reunion.
Homecoming
In 1911, Athletic Director Chester Brewer issued a call to all
alumni to “come home” for the Missouri-Kansas game.
More than 9,000 Mizzou alumni packed Rollins Field. Thousands
of alumni and friends still “come home” to Mizzou
each year for the oldest, and one of the largest, Homecomings
in the nation. For current information, please call toll-free
(888) 292-MUHC.
Alumni
Athletic Events
The Association sponsors Tiger tailgates and rallies for select
football and basketball games with special pricing for all MUAA
members, including the upcoming pre-game rally in St. Louis
before the Aug. 30th MU versus Illinois football game.
“At the MU Alumni Association we value
the support and commitment that our members give to the Association
and University,” says David Roloff, MUAA director of membership
and marketing. Serving the best interests of our members is
a top priority, and it is our hope that each member feels their
membership is worthy of continuing for years to come. Each member
contributes to the vitality of the entire Mizzou family. We
truly appreciate the support our members have given us this
year.”
