MU
Presents Missouri Life Sciences Week 2003
Missouri
Life Sciences Week 2003, hosted by the University of Missouri-Columbia
March 3-7, is a unique opportunity for scientists around the state
to communicate and collaborate on life sciences research. A variety
of seminars and forums, including both online and live poster
sessions highlighting life sciences research in the state of Missouri,
will take place during the week on the MU campus, UMKC campus
and at the Danforth Plant Science Center. Streaming video of the
events may be accessed from anywhere in the world via the Internet.
Seminars on topics ranging from plant immunity
to Alzheimer’s disease will be offered throughout the week.
Seminars and forums will be broadcast in a live, interactive format
via Internet2 — a nationwide high-performance network —
to locations at MU, UMKC, and the Danforth Plant Science Center
in St. Louis.
“Life sciences research is not limited to just biology or
medicine,” said Mark Hannink, associate professor of biochemistry.
“Because there is so much life sciences research happening
in various disciples, one goal of this week is to develop an indexed
database for life science activities throughout the state. In
addition, the two-day poster session will showcase the diversity
of life
sciences research on the MU campus.”
Scientists in the academic, public and private
sectors will participate in the poster session, seminars and forums.
All seminars are free and open to the public.
Formerly known as Molecular Biology Week, Missouri Life Sciences
Week was developed as a mechanism to promote communication and
collaboration by life science researchers across the state. Missouri
Life Sciences Week is presented by the MU Molecular Biology Program,
the UM Bioinformatics Consortium, the Stowers Institute for Medical
Research, the Kansas City Area Life Sciences Institute and the
Danforth Plant Science Center.
