Athletics Receives Major Gift

The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced
March 2 that it received a $10 million gift from the Kansas City Sports Trust. The contribution, which will help renovate existing facilities and fund student scholarships, is the third largest in MU history.

Researcher Links Estrogen
to Colon Cancer Protection

Food Scientist Ruth MacDonald has established for the first time that estrogen may protect against this common form of cancer. Her research also demonstrates that soy compounds could have protective features against the disease. Read more

MUs Food Stamp Nutrition Education program recently received a $5.8 million federal grant to continue focusing nutrition and fitness education on children. Read more

Freshman Interest Groups, commonly known as FIGs, are in their 10th year on campus. MU’s program, where students with similar interests live in the same residence hall and attend classes together, has become a national model in creating a supportive environment. Read more

Alumna Named Head of Drug-Free Schools
Deborah Price, BS HE ’72, recently was named deputy under secretary in charge of the Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools, U.S. Department of Education.
