Four
Baseball Players Earn
All-American, Regional Recognition
The postseason honors continue to roll in
for the Mizzou baseball team.
Designated hitter Lee
Laskowski and right-handed pitcher Garrett
Broshuis have been named to the American Baseball Coaches
Association Rawlings All-Midwest Region Team. Both Laskowski and
Broshuis were All-Big 12 First Team selections this year for the
Tigers.
Laskowski hit .355 last season with eight
home runs and 45 RBI. He hit .381 in Big 12 Conference games,
which was third best in the conference. In the four games played
at the Big 12 Conference Tournament, Laskowski hit .400, scored
eight runs, drove in five and was named to the All-Tournament
team.
Broshuis has also been named a third-team
All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association
and a second team All-American by CollegeBaseballInsider.com.
He became the third pitcher in MU history to record 11 wins in
a season, by going 11-0 with a 2.61 ERA last season. Broshuis
was also named to the All-Tournament Team at the Big 12 Tournament
and was an Academic All-American.
First baseman Cody
Ehlers and right-handed relief pitcher Mark
Alexander were each named a 2004 CollegeBaseballInsider.com
All-American Honorable Mention selection. Ehlers led MU in nearly
every offensive category last season. He was the Most Outstanding
Player of the Big 12 Conference Tournament and was an honorable
mention All-Big 12 selection for the third straight season.
Alexander set a new Missouri school record
by appearing in 35 games for Mizzou this season. He had a 4-0
record and had 10 saves, which is second most in a season in MU
history. The 10 saves also put him in a tied for sixth for career
saves at Mizzou. Alexander was also an All-Big 12 Honorable Mention
selection this year.
Broshuis was taken in the fifth round of the
2004 Major League Baseball First-Year Players Draft by the San
Francisco Giants, while Ehlers was taken in the 11th round by
the New York Yankees and Alexander was the 20th round pick of
the Los Angeles Dodgers.
