Jerry Holman, BS EE ’58,
of San Antonio, Texas, received the Tom Landry Award as the
Special Olympics Coach of the Year for the state of Texas.
Juan J. Walte, BJ ’64,
retired in March 2003 from USA Today after nearly 21
years with the Virginia-based national newspaper. He was a member
of USA Today’s editorial board since 1995, and
before that was deputy world editor and foreign correspondent.
Walte joined USA Today in December 1982 after 17 years
with United Press International, based in Washington, D.C.,
after earlier assignments in Caracas, Venezuela, and San Juan,
Puerto Rico.
Lowell M. Schake, BS ’60,
MS ’62, has written the book La Charrette: Village
Gateway to the American West (published by iUniverse, Inc.,
May 2003). The book portray’s the village’s origin,
its citizens and their culture at the time when notable expedition
leaders like Lewis and Clark, Zebulon Pike and Stephen H. Long
docked at Charrette Creek, Mo.
In the May 2003 issue of @Mizzou, we listed
Mizzou alumni who were recognized in the annual Ingram’s
magazine “40 Under 40” issue. Unfortunately we neglected
to include J. Dale Youngs, BJ ’86, an
attorney at Blackwell Sanders Peper Martin LLP. A former Missouri
assistant attorney general and chief counsel for the Western
Region, Youngs is active in the Kansas City community and dedicated
to public service.
