Four
Tigers Selected in
Major League Baseball Draft
Four Mizzou baseball players were chosen
in the 2004 Major
League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, led by senior right-hander
Danny
Hill, who was taken by the Toronto Blue Jays in the third
round with the 87th pick. Fellow right-handed pitcher, junior
Garrett
Broshuis was taken in the fifth round by the San Francisco
Giants with the 160th pick overall. In the 11th round, the
New York Yankees took senior first baseman Cody
Ehlers with the 339th overall pick. Mizzou right-handed
relief pitcher Mark
Alexander became the fourth Tiger taken when the Los Angeles
Dodgers selected him in the 20th round.
Hill was an All-Big
12 Honorable Mention selection this season after leading the
Tigers with 94 strikeouts. He was 5-5 on the year with a 4.39
ERA. Hill’s third-round selection is
the highest for a Missouri player since Dave Silvestri was
taken in the second round by Houston in 1988.
Broshuis finished
the season 11-0, becoming just the third pitcher in MU history
to reach 11 wins in a season. He was selected to the All-Big
12 First Team this season and was an Academic All-Big 12
and Academic All-America selection.
Ehlers lead Mizzou in nearly
every offensive category, including batting average (.364),
home runs (18) and RBI (71). He was an All-Big 12 Honorable Mention
selection and was named the Most Outstanding Player of the
Big 12 Tournament.
Alexander set a new Missouri school record
by appearing in 35 games for Mizzou this season. He had a 4-0
record and had 10 saves, which is second most in a season in
MU history. The 10 saves also put him in a tied for sixth for
career saves at Mizzou. He was a Big 12 Conference Honorable
Mention selection and was named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week
on May 11.
