Mizzou alumni members of the University of Missouri System Board of Curators

Don Walsworth

Don Walsworth of Marceline was appointed to the University of Missouri System Board of Curators in 2003 by Gov. Bob Holden. He is a member of the Resources and Planning Committee. Curator Walsworth received a bachelor's degree in education from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1957.

Curator Walsworth is president and chief executive officer of the Walsworth Publishing Company, Inc. of Marceline. He has been elected to a variety of boards including that of Citizens Bank and Trust Company of Chillicothe, Citizens Bancshares Company of Chillicothe and Marceline Savings and Loan.

Curator Walsworth served two terms on the Marceline City Council and one term as mayor. He was appointed to the Missouri State Highway and Transportation Commission in 1985 and served as its chairman in 1991-1992. In 1989 he received a Distinguished Service Award from the UM-Columbia Alumni Association, where he was also a founding member of the Herbert J. Davenport Society.

Mary L. James

Mary L. James of Harrisonville was appointed to the University of Missouri System Board of Curators in 1999 by Gov. Mel Carnahan. She is Vice President of the Board, Chair of the Executive Committee and a member of the Physical Facilities Committee and the Resources and Planning Committee. Curator James received a bachelor's degree in education from UM-Columbia in 1971.

She was a school teacher in San Antonio, Texas, and Harrisonville. She served as executive director of the Cass Medical Center Foundation for two years and was the human resources manager for the Cass County Publishing Co. for 26 years.

Curator James is treasurer of the Cass Medical Center Auxiliary and vice-president of the Congressional Award Council of Missouri. In addition, she is a member of the Harrisonville Area Chamber of Commerce, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Belton-Ozanam Southland Cooperative Advisory Council. She previously served as vice-chairman of the Harrisonville Park Board and vice-president of the Cass Medical Center Foundation.

Curator James is a member of the Cass County MU Alumni Association, a life member of the MU Alumni Association, and, a trustee of MU's Jefferson Club.

Thomas E. Atkins

Thomas E. Atkins was appointed to the University of Missouri System Board of Curators by Gov. Bob Holden in 2001. He serves as Chair of the Physical Facilities Committee and is a member of the Finance Committee and the Executive Committee.

Curator Atkins is a life-long resident of Columbia, Missouri. He is an alumnus of the University of Missouri-Columbia, holding a bachelor of science degree in accounting. He is owner of Columbia Photo, Atkins Building Services, and is a managing partner in several residential and commercial real estate development partnerships.

Curator Atkins has a long history of service, including membership on the boards of Columbia College, Boone County National Bank and GTE/North. He has been a member of the Ellis Fischel Cancer Center's board since its inception in 1991. He has also lent his services to the United Way, serving as campaign chair and board president, and to the Columbia Chamber of Commerce, serving as president.

Curator Atkins has long been a strong supporter of the University of Missouri and is a Lifetime Member of the University of Missouri-Columbia Alumni Association. A member of the Jefferson Club (Diplomat Level), he has served on the University of Missouri Development Council since 1976 and on the executive committee since 1997. Curator Atkins was presented with a UM-Columbia Faculty/Alumni Award in 1997 and the Distinguished Service Award in 1999.

M. Sean McGinnis

M. Sean McGinnis of Springfield was appointed to the University of Missouri System Board of Curators in 1999 by Gov. Mel Carnahan. He is Chair of the Resources and Planning Committee. Curator McGinnis received a bachelor's degree (business administration/political science/economics) from Drury College in 1981 and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1984.

Curator McGinnis is a partner of the law firm Newberry, Haden, Cowherd, Bullock, Keck & McGinnis, L.L.C., which he joined in 1998 after spending 13 years with another Springfield law firm. In addition, from 1989 to 1992 he was a special city attorney for the City of Branson.

Since 1996 Curator McGinnis has been a Missouri State Fair Commissioner. He is a member of the Springfield Downtown Kiwanis Club and the Springfield Quarterback and Tip Off Club.

Curator McGinnis, a member of MU's Jefferson Club, served on MU's Strategic Planning Committee from 1997 to 1998 and was on the Intercollegiate Athletic Committee from 1994 to 1998. He has long been involved in the Legislative Information Network Committee and the University of Missouri Political Action Committee.
