Women’s
Golf Places Third in Tournament
Sophomore Denise
Knaebel fires career-best round of 70 in final round; finishes
in a tie for second.
The No. 21 University of Missouri women’s
golf squad fired its best round of the fall (295) on Tuesday
and finished in third at the Shoot-out at the Legends. The Tigers
have now finished in the top three in two of their first three
tournaments and continue to be one of the hottest teams in collegiate
golf. After finishing the first day of the tourney in a tie
for fifth, the Tigers played inspired golf on the sun-drenched
Legends golf course registering a three-round total of 893,
besting both Arkansas and TCU by one stroke.
Moberly native Denise Knaebel continued
to be the story thus far in the fall for Mizzou. After firing
rounds of one-over 73 and 73 on Monday, Knaebel was in a tie
for 12th place heading into the final day of the tourney. However,
she definitely saved her best for last — literally —
firing a career-best two-under par 70 in the final round to
finish in a tie for second. This also marks the first time in
her career that she has finished in the top five at a tournament.
Junior Maria Ohlsson also used the favorable
conditions of the tourney to fire some low numbers this week.
After a three-over par 75 in the opening round, Ohlsson shot
rounds of 73 and 72 in the final two rounds for a total of 220,
finishing in 10th place, her best finish since last fall. Sophomore
Kelli Strubinger had a solid tournament, finishing in 27th with
rounds of 74, 77 and 75 for a total of 226. Junior Mindy Bullard
(231, 46th) and sophomore Stephanie Turner (237) wrapped up
the Tiger’s scoring in their third of five tournaments
during the fall season.
The Tigers will travel to Palm Harbor, Fla.,
for the Adidas Fall Classic, which will be played from October
19-21.
