Tiger guard Rickey Paulding is a favorite for All-American and Big 12 player of the year awards. Regarded as one of the most electrifying dunkers in the Big 12, he is also very capable of knocking down the outside jumper (39 percent from three in 2002-03). Men’s Basketball

It could be argued that the Mizzou men’s basketball team has saved its best for last. In their final year of calling the Hearnes Center home, the Tigers will face one of th best and toughest schedules in the country during the 2003-04 season. Mizzou welcomes some of the top teams in the nation into the friendly confines including defending national champion Syracuse, Iowa, Texas, UNLV and Kansas for what should be an entertaining year at the Hearnes. Add to the mix an extremely tough road non-conference schedule (at Indiana, vs. Illinois, vs. Gonzaga and at Memphis), and the Tigers have all the makings of an amazing year.

“This is a terrific opportunity for us to play against some of the top competition in the country,’’ Head Coach Quin Snyder said. “We have a great group of young men assembled here at Mizzou, and we are looking forward to the challenges that are ahead of us this year.’’

Eleven teams that reached postseason play last season, including eight NCAA Tournament participants, appear on the Missouri women’s basketball teams’ 2003-04 schedule, released by Head Coach Cindy Stein.

The Tigers, who advanced to postsesason play for the fourth straight season last year, officially open their 30th season of play on Nov. 23 at Bradley. Mizzou’s home opener— which kicks off the Tigers’ final season of play in the Hearnes Center before moving into a sparkling, $75 million facility next year — is scheduled for Nov. 26 against Southern (La.)

“This promises to be an exciting season of women’s basketball here at Missouri as we go for our fifth straight season of postseason play,’’ commented Stein, who enters her sixth year at the helm of the Tiger bench. “As the program continues to improve, we’ve come up with a schedule that challenges us in the nonconference portion of the season and also prepares us for the rigors of one of the toughest conferences in the country.’’
